Started up GKB just now and encountered an odd problem: the Topics pane (bottom left in my Native layout) is blank and remains blank/grey even when categories are selected in the pane above. Topics do appear in the pane if a keyword search is carried out in the Documents area on the right hand side but I can't get GKB to display all topics.

Has anyone seen this before? I haven't made any settings changes which I would imagine would cause this behaviour so I'm scratching my head...

I have just downloaded this program and so far it looks very promising for our needs. However, the help file talks about a demo database called 'demo.gkb' ? I can't seem to find this in the setup files anywhere. Is there somewhere I can download it, just so that I can get more of a feel for the program.

i am testing this nice product and it seems to work quite well for my requirements. however, there is something missing.

i need to be able to copy the category tree. further, it's better if in copying the tree, I can copy the gkb documents and topics inside as well.

I have a requirement to keep track of resolutions on findings in weekly log reviews. so I am categorizing by week, then by log report (say, 17 of them. windows active directory, linux successful root access etc etc.). so there is a maximum of 17 subcategories under 1 parent category which is the report week (say, 01 August 2010 - 07 August 2010).

so i hope you get it, that I need to replicate the tree every report week. it's gonna be tedious to keep on creating the tree every week.

GeneralKB is really a great piece of software. I have searched a long time to find something like it.
I'm just starting to explore the many possibilities of it.
One thing I don't seem to find is to have relative link paths.
If I insert a file in the database, its link is something like c:/directory/subdirectory/filename.ext.
Now I want to move my database and all its associated files to a different drive, but then the
database doesn't find the file anymore. What I want to do is something like ../subdirectory/filename.ext
where the .. is the directory where I put my database. So it would be no problem to move everything from
c:/directory to for example d:/dir1/dir2.
I know you can insert the file directly in the database but because it concerns sometimes many video fragments
of several tens of Mb, the database file immediately becomes immense. Therefore I prefer links to files.
Is there a way out ?

I used this file already : generalkb-2-6-306.exe , reinstall didn't work either, no question about the capture option.
Could be, included in the .msi , download, started , it recognizes the correct installation, so I used "repair", it checked, no question about capture, after this startup GKB, runs well, tried to capture a webpage: no result.

First I tried on a Toshiba extended harddisk, subdir were made, nevertheless GKB doesn't recognize the newly made subdir and file.

OK, then tried on the normal harddisk, made a new subdir by the explorer, and filename for a new database inside the programm : result of the game : Can't create "......" directory as error message while the directory allready was made.

Congratulations: PDF viewer is within GeneralKB now. This is a very nice feature !!!

But: The viewer at least needs a search dialog (like GKB document editor) to find text in the current document.

And, of course, the database search should also find text in embedded documents, especially PDF and HTML - because this is the main feature of GKB. Otherwise it does not make too much sense to store documents inside the database.

Normally I would expect that it selects the database which has last been used. I recently upgraded from 2.4 to 2.5.256 and the hyperlinks in my previous built databases no longer work.

This message appears "cannot navigate to gkp://topic.(+ a number)

Also..when creating a hyperlink (by highlighting the file in the link pop-up) the path is:

gkb://category.10426 (number changes depending on selected file).

.Problems with .pdf files:

Existing links to local pdf files aren't working.

A newly created .pdf link is not being retained in the links box.
ie it looks like a link (ie blue color), and acts like a link (ctrl + mouseover shows hand) but the path isn't showing in link pop-up and nothing happens when I click on it.

External links work fine.

I'm using Version 2.5.258.

My database get deeper and deeper organized. Now its not possible to select deep organized topics while they are not visible in the dialog box. It seems to me, that I'm not able to scroll in this dialog or to resize this box.

Hope there is a solution.
