good day,

i am testing this nice product and it seems to work quite well for my requirements. however, there is something missing.

i need to be able to copy the category tree. further, it's better if in copying the tree, I can copy the gkb documents and topics inside as well.

I have a requirement to keep track of resolutions on findings in weekly log reviews. so I am categorizing by week, then by log report (say, 17 of them. windows active directory, linux successful root access etc etc.). so there is a maximum of 17 subcategories under 1 parent category which is the report week (say, 01 August 2010 - 07 August 2010).

so i hope you get it, that I need to replicate the tree every report week. it's gonna be tedious to keep on creating the tree every week.

thanks

Hello Alexander,
I have installed the newest Version.

During the weekend I had a closer look to the extension. Doing a lot of testing and comparing different versions of the add in, I found the following:
If I do the following change in the file webcaptureoverlay.js:
Change line 141 from
var sul_ff_exe_fspec = gsul_path + '\' + sul_ff_exe;
to
var sul_ff_exe_fspec = gsul_path + '\\' + sul_ff_exe;
get things to work.

However I´m a little surprised that no one else had that problem

Hallo,
the story seems to repeat.
I have upgraded to Firefox 3.6.8.
The command "Capture webpage with General KB" was not visible in the header menu and not visible in the context menu any more. I followed the advice from the forum and installed the fix. The menues became visible again, but clicking on "Capture webpage with General KB" nothing happens.

I deinstalled Firefox and GeneralKB, reinstalled but nothing changed.

The only way to add a web page is to drop the url in the add topic popup.

All the time, web capture works great with internet explorer version 8.

For completeness, I´m using windows xp prof as operating system.

Any help available ?

Another thing I considered was using the powerful search feature to search for "c:/directory" and replace it by "d:/dir1/dir2" but the search option doesn't look into the link address, so that doesn't work either.

I will have to include the files, but it will be a several GByte database then. I suppose GeneralKB can handle that well.

Hi,

GeneralKB is really a great piece of software. I have searched a long time to find something like it.
I'm just starting to explore the many possibilities of it.
One thing I don't seem to find is to have relative link paths.
If I insert a file in the database, its link is something like c:/directory/subdirectory/filename.ext.
Now I want to move my database and all its associated files to a different drive, but then the
database doesn't find the file anymore. What I want to do is something like ../subdirectory/filename.ext
where the .. is the directory where I put my database. So it would be no problem to move everything from
c:/directory to for example d:/dir1/dir2.
I know you can insert the file directly in the database but because it concerns sometimes many video fragments
of several tens of Mb, the database file immediately becomes immense. Therefore I prefer links to files.
Is there a way out ?

Many thanks !

After download and install new version 2.6 306 I cannot make a new database.

First I tried on a Toshiba extended harddisk, subdir were made, nevertheless GKB doesn't recognize the newly made subdir and file.

OK, then tried on the normal harddisk, made a new subdir by the explorer, and filename for a new database inside the programm : result of the game : Can't create "......" directory as error message while the directory allready was made.

Solution ?

'Run' setting in Database manager only allows to start one explicit database when starting GKB exe.

Launching GKB via the file name extension allows to start the selected database by double clicking on the database file and so I can have several file links to databases for different projects in the project folder.

The 'Run' setting makes sense for a personal knowledge base, the command line parameter makes sense for project based databases.

Thank you

Most windows programs allow starting a program together with a file. In GKB 2.6 it seems that the function is not available (the contained help file is from the totally other product (refer to "Database manager ever starts with same database", Forum entry) GKB 2.4 and does not contain any hint on it - but there it worked fine).
So I would like to start GKB using
generalkb.exe "C:\MyGKBFiles\MyDatabase.gkb"

Would be fine if it would be available before I have to pay for the next bugfix release.

The dialog of the database manager all the time starts in a personal directory, never reminds the directory where the last database came from and has also no chance to copy/paste the path from an explorer into the path edit box.

So I have to click through the drives and pathes again and again to fill in the list. Why that? Could you please at least make the edit box read/writeable to allow copying the path into after selecting it with a more handy tool?

Thanks a lot! My hope was to find it within the last update.
